We’re living in a world where we’re so much caught up in the whirlwind of what-ifs instead of what’s-nexts. As a leading expert on overthinking; I can say that it’s so much easier to go down the former road, rather than being excited about the uncertainties with a can-do attitude. At some points, I remember begging to God to just get me out of my own mind because I was so frustrated with myself like “Girl, are you listening to yourself? Your train of thought has gone far too long it practically opened new stations every 10 seconds. Stop whatever you’re thinking right now!” Funny thing though, ever since that day I would get a really bad headache whenever I couldn’t get my mind at rest. The most forceful yet effective way to shut down and lay my head, no more jibber-jabber!

Sometimes we act like a better screenwriter because we believe in the what-ifs a little too much. Combined with all the insecurities, doubts and fears; it produces a great twist that just makes everything an Oscar-winning plot. But here’s the catch. God knows everything about us. EVERYTHING. He is not looking for our capability, but our availability.

Romans 8 : 15–17 (MSG) says, “This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us — an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!”

Isn’t that amazing, knowing that the future is marked with full assurance of hope until the end? “What’s next, Papa?” is now our key to unlock the greatness of new dimension in our lives.

This classic battlefield in your mind routine is not an overnight process to conquer, but it sure gets better as we learn to quiet our mind. I find that phrase “quiet your mind” is not so practical, especially when yours is a chatty one. The fact that my head rejected that phrase alone is a solid proof that this little nogging needs Holy Spirit bad, folks. But since our Heavenly Father is so good, there’s another phrase that He gave to shut down the chatters, it is “rely your mind” — Rely your mind on Me, darling. And let Me take over your mind. To rely our mind is followed by a great confidence in Him. Knowing that He renews our minds and guides our thoughts, allowing us to to think toward and upward in the direction that He wants best for us.

What makes it so difficult to quiet our minds?

If the mind is our battlefield, can you imagine how hard it is to listen to everything other than the heavy artillery sounds? That’s how the enemy blocks our ability to hear His soft-whisper, guiding voice that subdues every other noise. Our mind is cluttered with unnecessary thoughts, distracting us from entering the heavenly frequency where we can listen to His voice clearly.

In order to stay in tune with God, in the frequency that is chatter-free and filled with empowering presence, we need to train our focus. Focus on Him — on His will, on the specific purpose & destiny He has called us for His good works. Staying laser-focused starts with focusing on our prayer — since it’s the heart and center of how we live our everyday life according to His will, to express the need of looking to Him.

As we lean in, with great anticipation, let God’s voice sink deep in your heart and make your foundation stronger than ever. I believe we need to create space — spiritual, emotional and physical — to focus on the True Voice. This space is what I like to call the bloom rooms. It’s like our personal environment that facilitates connection and a sense of openness where we can be vulnerable and fully relaxed while also growing each day with Him. This bloom room is where we meditate on the goodness of His heart, like inhaling the Word and exhaling prayer. Open the bloom rooms in your mind and in your heart. Invite God today to drench you with His love, to soak you with the Living Water, so that every seed planted in the soil of your heart will come to bear new plants each day, always in bloom.

“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.” — Colossians 4:2–4 (NLT)
